I get major sinus headaches and infections. I’m dealing with one now. I usually take Excedrin regularly when I have one and that helps, but I can’t take aspirin. All I’m allowed is Tylenol, which never helps me! My entire face and head hurts, and I seriously need some relief. What can I do that doesn’t require medication?
Sinus headaches are caused by a combination of several things. Swelling due to infection, blockage of nasal passages, and inflammation of the blood vessels. You can temporarily relieve these symptoms by doing the following:
1.) Take periodic steam baths. One every six hours can thoroughly clear out your sinus passageways, and loosen nasal mucous. Boil a gallon or two of water, and pour the water into a heat safe bowl. Place the bowl on a table (shield the surface with a towel). For optimum effect, add chamomile tea, or a tiny bit of menthol, peppermint or eucalyptus oil (available at candle stores, whole food stores, and sometimes in the food section of your grocer). Get a thick towel and a timer. Set the timer for 10 to 15 minutes, cover your head and the bowl with the towel, and inhale deeply. Your nose will start to run fairly quickly, and after you clear it, keep inhaling through your nose as much as possible.
2.) Use Vick’s vaporub products. There are inhalable products you can spray into your nose. Don’t worry about interaction, they are just menthol, mint, eucalyptus, etc. The product won’t harm the baby. If that doesn’t work or you can’t find it, use the topical stuff and rub some on your chest. It’ll help clear you out.
3.) You can temporarily alleviate the pressure by pinching the bridge of your nose, and simultaneously pressing your tongue to the roof of your mouth. I am not sure why it works, but it does.
If you have a sinus headache for more than a few days, you should go to the doctor. It may mean that you have a sinus infection, and it would be a good idea to get the infection under control before it gets worse. You may also have developed an allergy, not uncommon for pregnant women. Though you won’t want to take allergy medication, your doctor may be able to help you figure out what you are allergic to, so you can get rid of it, and hopefully get some relief.
use this thing called a neti pot. you pour a water solution up your nose and it comes out the other nostril. it sounds so super crazy but it got rid of my sinus problems that were giving me horrible headaches. it takes a try or two to get it working right and it seems goofy but it worked for me

You know the heat pack/cold packs?
Buy one of them, and freeze it, and use it on your head. I have sinus at the moment, and it always helps.
